LINCOLN (SNR) – Members of St. Michael Parish in Lincoln met July 23 to celebrate women’s’ gifts to the Church.
Earlier this year, members of St. Michael’s “Women at the Well” met to discuss how women’s gifts could be recognized and laid at the feet of the Church in gratitude and service. The mission of Women at the Well is to build community amongst all women of St. Michael Parish through socialization, a featured speaker reflection, and small group discussions.
Inspired by monthly women’s fellowship gatherings at North American Martyrs and St. Joseph parishes in Lincoln, St. Michael’s Women at the Well was created Feb. 4, sharing its namesake with the St. Joseph’s group. The group’s spring plans were halted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the feast of St. Mary Magdalene July 23, the group met for an evening of community, reflection, and adoration outside in the courtyard of St. Michael Parish. Women gathered in their lawn chairs, as speakers Maeg Meyers and Autumn Spethman shared their personal experiences during the quarantine and their realization of the need for our Lord and the importance of nourishing relationship with Him. They encouraged woman to persevere in intimacy despite the chaos and anxiety so present in society.
The evening also included Eucharistic adoration and praise and worship music led by Jacqueline Kane, St. Michael music director. Confessions were also celebrated during the evening. More than 20 women of all ages were in attendance. The group plans to continue gathering and growing in fellowship in the months ahead.
“Adoration was a profound time for me,” said Shane Kennett, who attended and spoke of the impact of the evening. “There was Jesus, in front of all of the women adoring him, as well as children playing in the parking lot and all the people who were walking by. It was a visible reality of how Jesus is not exclusive. He is there for everyone.”
The group continues to meet in the future.
