The Diocese of Lincoln sponsored a “family holy hour” Sunday, Dec. 11 in the chapel of the John XXIII Diocesan Center in Lincoln. Father Christian Schwenka preached and priests were available to hear confessions.

 St. Mary Parish in Davey celebrated a Eucharistic procession through town Oct. 26. Many helped organize the event, including CCD teachers and parents, Knights of Columbus, parishioners who prepared altars at two locations in town, and St. Teresa Parish of Lincoln who donated their Eucharistic canopy for the procession. LINCOLN (SNR) – Jim Bertrand, a member of St. Peter Parish in Lincoln, gave a talk Oct. 8 at St. Peter Parish on the Shroud of Turin, an artifact believed to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ.

Bertrand has presented in parishes throughout the state and even across the country. In 2023 he is scheduled to give presentations in Georgia, Rhode Island, Florida, Michigan and Oklahoma. His talk includes evidence from a variety of forensic sciences, botany, archaeology, historical documents and even art history. SNR photos | Cathy Blankenau Bender

Bishop James Conley was announced as the Ninth Bishop of Lincoln Sept. 14, 2012. He was at the time an auxiliary bishop in Denver and came to Lincoln for the announcement. Bishop Conley met the Chancery staff and visited the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, where he prayed at the tombs of previous bishops, and then with the Cathedral School children. The formal announcement was made in the John XXIII Diocesan Center. Later that day, he visited many sites in the diocese, including in Lincoln, Pius X High School, Catholic Social Services, St. Gianna Women's Home, the Pink Sisters, the Carmelite Sisters in Agnew, and St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward.

LINCOLN (SNR) - A groundbreaking at St. Mary Church in downtown Lincoln Aug. 11 marked the start of a major renovation project at the historic church across from the State Capitol. Pastor Father Joseph Walsh, Bishop James Conley, Governor Pete Ricketts and Jeff Maul, executive director of the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau, were among those speaking at the morning event. The first phase of the restoration will begin this fall on the west side of the church with repairs to the exterior facade and improvements to the confessionals inside.

Bishop James Conley celebrated Mass at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Falls City July 17 to consecrate the new altar in the renovated church. Bishop Conley also installed Father James Meysenburg as pastor. The renovation, by Clark Architects Collaborative 3, included a new sanctuary and furnishings, new confessionals, new pews, new tile, new restrooms in the narthex and the addition of a small adoration chapel.
