Family Life & Discipleship

Since 1991, Healing Hearts Grief Outreach Program has provided support for Catholics who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Each year, the Mass of the Holy Innocents (Dec. 28) is offered for parents who have lost an infant. Support groups and Grief Outreach training are also available through Healing Hearts.

In its six-week series, offered twice each year, Healing Hearts deals with such issues as:

  • Grief Process
  • Christian Perspective on Suffering
  • Effects of Grief on Relationships
  • Comfort from Scripture
  • Restoring Balance

Presenters will discuss these and other important topics and the small group discussion format encourages sharing. The series will conclude with a Healing Mass.

Healing Hearts encourages continuation of the group to form support and to cover various other topics dealing with grief and recovery.

The next 6 week session will begin Thursday, October 1,  2026

Healing Hearts also assists families in the grief process for the loss of a baby.  The loss of baby is one of life's most painful events, filled with sadness, anger, physical pain, loneliness and despair. It can create feelings of disappointment, hopelessness and helplessness.

Grief experienced by such a tragic loss is a natural response, but one that is poorly understood. The griever may feel isolated and alone. Healing Hearts was developed to meet the needs of those bereaved parents, siblings, grandparents, or whoever may be affected by a loss of a child.

Healing Hearts provides a safe, loving and spiritual atmosphere in which to recover. Healing Hearts support program offers one-on-one support during the difficult beginning experiences until the griever moves towards recovery.

Healing Hearts deals with such issues as:

  • Funeral Preparation
  • Making Loving Memories
  • Christian Perspective on Suffering
  • Effects of Grief on Relationships
  • Comfort from Scripture
  • Restoring Balance

Trained counselors will discuss these and other important topics. A rose with the child's name can be placed at the Blessed Mother statue within the parish and a Mass offered for the family.

Healing Hearts counselors can meet and work with the family and/or coworkers to help them understand the painful loss experienced by the parents and siblings and help them to be a support.

Healing Hearts provides a trained therapist, or a trained volunteer who has experienced the loss of a baby, to be of assistance.

Healing Hearts also provides a remembrance Mass every year on the Feast day of the Holy Innocents, which is December 28th.
